After battling my way through several mediocre fantasy books in search of escapism, I opened The Little Stranger for no better reason than reading it before seeing the film, and immediately relaxed into Water’s mastery of the form.

Maybe give fantasy RPGs a try? I’m going through Divinity Original Sin right now, the plot isn’t terribly original, but the prose is delightful. Also, the spell-slinging looks awesome :)

Oof. That would be a radical change in my recreational habits! Complex, immersive games tend to make me anxious. My kid loves them, but I don’t find interacting and making decisions relaxing.

Ah, the decision matrix. D:OS actually takes an interesting tack, by making your chars’ arguments affect their stats (eg. Bold vs Cautious -> Initiative vs. Sneaking). But yes, it’s all about choices and they get overwhelming at times (in games, and in life.)
