I wasn't a fan of the production diluting the game's setting/plot; derivative though it was, Yamatai packed plenty of flavor, supernatural & pseudo-historic. I hope they don't go down the same path for Rise, I'd love to see Kitezh and the Deathless Ones done properly.
Given how so many fave franchises flopped in the past (inc. its previous incarnation), Tomb Raider 2018 is indeed a pretty decent videogame (reboot) action flick https://twitter.com/CinemaWinner/status/1030516518281519109 … and Vikander arguably channels the new young Lara, physique, grit & all

As a sidenote, it was pretty weird seeing Lara actually meeting, and teaming up with, her dad, like she never did in the games. The whole thing bordered on expedited/soppy, but wasn't too bad. And Daniel Wu substituting the rest of the allied cast worked for the Chinese market.

Can’t decide whether to Day 1 Shadow or not. It would be my first in about two years.

For a moment, I thought you were taking about Phantom Doctrine :) The rebooted TR franchise isn’t perfect, but I enjoyed the adventures in both games, so I guess I’m sold for Shadow. Not necessarily day 1, but I’ll play it for sure.

By “first,” you mean “first game in two years”?

LOL. I saw your tweet, was confused, then it was gone. I meant first Day 1 purchase in two years. I actually not THAT excited (as I know there will be deluxe/GOTY) but its one of the only two games I would buy w/o even considering a discount (other being Metro: Exodus).
