I am actually writing a novel about the scenario right now, called 'The Last Hajj' - basically set in a future uninhabitable Saudi Arabia.

Yikes, packs a punch. Have you read Brian Wood’s The Massive? https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16132891-the-massive-vol-1 … it’s right up that alley. Meandering and imperfect, but a compelling read nonetheless.

Vol. 4 (“Sahara”) runs closest to your subject matter, and is probably the strongest installment, but it’s all worth reading.

Basically my story revolves around an attempt by the Saudi government in exile to retrieve the Black Stone from Mecca, with most of the country dead, and the rest controlled by an ISIS-like fundamentalist group. Of course it doesn't go well.

Chalk me up as an early reader, esp. if it’ll feature the tactical side of the op.
