The book dwells on that actually. Once fire reaches the tempt to melt aluminum, which is 600 something, then there's so little water or chemicals used right now can do, so our technology is outdated, fires at that temp/speed finish in the sea or when there's nothing left.

Authorities here have been saying this pretty much, in their defense (and not for the first time). Which makes it even more imperative that there's a functional system in place to safely contain/deflect & evacuate (which we don't have).

Well, the argument of Greek police/MOD was really outrageous, because even if this is true, there's no reason why in a modern state miles of public beach are cordoned off and people burning to death walking miles to reach the sea which was 300 m from the house...
