A side-effect of Erdogan persecuting Gulenists, Kurds and leftists is that Turkish refugees have been discovering hospitality in Thessaloniki. At the same time as belligerent rhetoric by Turkish politicians against Greece is on the increase.

There's nothing in election results to suggest that anti-Greek belligerence in Turkish political rhetoric will abate. If anything, it's a convenient distraction from the state of the economy, and nationalism apparently sells like hot cakes.

And, conversely, nationalism in Greece is seeing a resurgence, thanks in part to the Macedonia name deal furore, with nazis/fascists and conservative opposition alike fanning the flames to reap votes. We're likely heading for troubling waters.
