Starship Troopers is pretty controversial, people can’t seem to agree on whether it lauds a fascist, militaristic society and its propaganda, or whether it critiques it. I’d go with the latter, Verhoeven is as complicated as Heinlein was, but I don’t believe he’s a fascist.

The movie is definitely a critique of the book, or at least calls it out on its bullshit, the book itself is ... complicated and definitely is a product of Heinlein's idiosyncratic libertarianism.

Yeah, pretty obvious if you’ve read the book. Verhoeven’s stance is more evident in Robocop & Total Recall, he’s very much aware & critical of corporatism and totalitarianism, but also able to blend these themes with blockbuster action.
