Admittedly, Westworld's Shogun World episode was pretty entertaining & impressive (except the boring parts w Dolores), though the nightmarish "Riddle Of The Sphinx" probably won't be topped this season. Root Jedi Maeve is too OP, but I'm enjoying her crew's D&D adventures.
S3 aired Oct. through to mid-December last year, also pushed back compared to previous seasons. But it's fine, I can wait for a quality season. I think :p

As for WW, it's so intricate, I don't bother to work it out (and I love puzzles.) It's a chewing gum show for me, which is disappointing.
-
Exactly, wasted potential given how deep the themes it tries to juggle are. Which is why Riddle of the Sphinx was its strongest episode. I don't mind working out the puzzles, it's the navel-gazing & hyperviolence that breaks my immersion.
-
Nolan is so keen on his precious puzzles that he forgets movies are about storytelling -- my impression. Violence is indeed excessive.
-
Couldn't have said it better. Hollywood's precocious boy wonders need some perspective recalibration from time to time.
-
I don't think he and both of them changed much since Memento -- I got that impression back then and it remains. Seriously, I love puzzles, but WW feels like work that needs to be de-constructed with a huge board -- like in detective films/shows, or Carrie's crazy wall.
-
Oh, but that's the thing, they'll never manage to put together a more elaborate puzzlebox than s1's. Which I totally appreciated, and engaged with, but it's over now. I appreciate most of his work, but he wears me out by the end (eg. Dark Knight Rises).

I agree.

You're right. Quality is good.
-
I'm not worried about Mr. Robot, Esmail just had to get over himself & the series found its story & heart. I am "worried" about Westworld, though, not sure it'll manage to duplicate that feat.
-
I kinda gave up on it. I do love characters & actors and watch for their moments. Dolores bores me this season though.
-
Heh, Dolores' whole side of the plot is boring af, grinding its wheels. Obviously the show lacks Sir Anthony's magnificence, but I can get engaged with the Bernard puzzlebox side of things, if only they'll advance the story sometime.
-
I love Bernard :) And Newton's madam :)
-
Maeve & Bernard are the only reason I'm still watching this thing, from a character engagement PoV.
-
Man in black is still interesting. And I like the screenwriter.
