#TheRainNetflix is way better than I originally gave it credit for. Ostensibly a derivative YA post-apoc survival adventure, it realistically/maturely handles themes most other takes in the genre -inc. the overhyped Walking Dead- paint-by-numbers over, and it nails group dynamics

@theseantcollins is apparently the only columnist who serially reviewed The Rain, but his pieces are insightful & spot on https://decider.com/2018/05/08/the-rain-on-netflix-episode-5-recap/ … (spoiler warning, obviously; also, ep 5 was an unsettling masterpiece)1 reply 1 retweet 3 likesShow this thread -
Also, this needs to be pointed out b/c it's one of The Rain's standout features. The cultural obsession with guns in the US would make such a story told w/o a profusion of guns & bravado impossible to function stateside.pic.twitter.com/TuWflSTSbm

(Sure, my own internal imagery of post-apoc tales is also full of guns & bravado, but that's precisely b/c it was primarily based on American fiction. But as Fallout 4 proved, that can only work for so long.)
