@emlynaddison Some people shouldn't have kids, either...
Pit bulls in public. A bit like guns in public, aren't they? Mostly harmless lifestyle accessories and you love 'em dearly etc. But...

@Gomba13 Precisely...but kids don't wound people. (Well, generally.)

@emlynaddison They are nervous, sensitive dogs. People should give more care to the breed they choose.
-
@Gomba13 And that's just it IMVHO: just as some people really shouldn't own firearms--ESPECIALLY in public.

@emlynaddison We agree there! A dog is not a weapon and shouldn't be treated as such.
-
@Gomba13 Well, again, pit bulls were bred for fighting/defense, so they can conceivably be termed "weapons" in some contexts.

@emlynaddison Pitbulls are also the most beaten race. People get'em to intimidate neighbors & when the dog won't intimidate, it gets beaten.
-
@Gomba13 I understand that, but the dogs themselves were BRED to be aggressive, possibly unpredictable, even before the beatings.

@emlynaddison Not sure about this, Emlyn. Seems to me pitbulls mostly attack when they were beaten and/or neglected by their owner.
-
@Gomba13 True, of course, but pit bulls were bred to be strong and aggressive. Who knows what our artificial selection has produced.

@emlynaddison The same could be said of Rotties, Dalmatians, etc. Let's recognize the problem is how dogs are handled, not the breeds.
-
@Gomba13 I think our own irresponsible breeding has produced dogs that can't be safely handled by all. But tell that to a dog/gun owner! -
@emlynaddison I've never had a dog, but I've known several awesome family pitbulls with clean records, despite their breeding for a purpose.
