@chanesteiner Given population explosion I don't see an alternative and "self-governance" does not work for nation-states of 300+ million.

@emlynaddison We can't sacrifice our liberty under any circumstances. Limited government would work.

@chanesteiner (Actually, we can give up liberties: instead of giving up children's lives, we could give up, say, guns. But I digress...)1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@emlynaddison Ignoring the disturbing amount of mental health issues & instead focusing on inanimate objects is incomprehensible to me.

@chanesteiner Said "inanimate objects" empower said mentally disturbed with the means to take others' lives. Why is that incomprehensible?1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@emlynaddison Because the mentally disturbed will find other inanimate objects. Their disturbance is the problem, not the objects.

@chanesteiner The disturbance *IS* the problem, but until a solution is found the tools they use to kill should be off the table. Period.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@emlynaddison "If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns." Same reason the war on drugs failed. Their legality matters not.

@chanesteiner Australia outlawed guns in 1996, following a horrible mass shooting. No mass shootings since.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@emlynaddison That's great, but doesn't really prove anything. Mass shootings are pretty rare, either way.

@chanesteiner Mass shootings are only the worst manifestation of the larger problem, but are crucial reminders of our violent culture.
