Here’s what I have checked for my playthrough: Hard mode, stable seed, skip replay. Everything else is unchecked.
Looks like the hardmode variable is inexplicably broken if you don't skip cutscenes. Sorry about that, I'll submit a patch with that immediately. I'd suggest playing through again with cutscene skip on, you'll have a very different experience.

Actually I'd suggest doing "action only", that one definitely won't have the softlock. I'm still doing tests on the other modes.
