To me, cosplay and character creation have to be realistic. I want the characters to feel real. Not like djarii in a costume. I want to BE that character.
This. This is why I've never cosplayed, I'm too much of a perfectionist and would be angry/upset if it came out looking bad!

I have this problem too with cosplay. I don't yet have enough skills to give characters enough justice. But I do have the makeup abilities!

(My biggest pet peeve is with unrealistic looking elf eyebrows. That's why I always draw mine!)
