BlizzCon has been bittersweet for me for about eight years now. One of my biggest drives used to be taking the time between cons to make a costume and plan things with friends. I’m too goal oriented, and without that goal I just felt lost.

I was upset when I was told I couldn’t cosplay at BlizzCon anymore, but I understood at the time. Working BlizzCon meant two days of 12+ hour shifts, which I didn’t get OT for since I was salaried. When I saw non-interviewing devs only work one day, four hour shifts, I cried.

It sucks that the devs were always treated way better when it came to the event. I watched devs plan their cosplays, even participate in the contest, and it created a growing resentment in me. I was told “it’s for the fans”! Yes. I just wanted to be treated the same as Dev.

Not sure where I’m going with this anymore. The event used to be special. Now it’s not. I feel like I lost something along the way, and it makes me sad.

Maybe Blizzard will figure out someday that treating certain employees like second-class citizens is a contributor to their high churn rate. And devs, stop bitching about your shifts. Everyone hates you when you do. Everyone.

Replying to @ZerinaX
I feel you. As a regional team it always stung to see my global counterparts included in stuff but never had the opportunity suggested.
