Be me. Casually watching The Shining. Power goes out. Nearly crap myself. Fiddle around with the breaker, turns out it's the electric toilet that tripped the breaker. Have to keep it unplugged or else it trips. Now, quite literally can't crap myself. What a Sunday night...

Or shredder-thingies. Some toilets were added during renovations of places that didn't have them. Instead of having large pipes added to the whole building, toilets with a kind of shredder are used, as they can be installed on normal smaller pipes.
Yep it’s one of those. I rent an apartment in an attic conversion in an old building so I guess the landlord opted for one instead of having to get new pipes installed.

They're pretty common nowadays. Use less water too than normal oilets if I remember right. And definitely easier/faster to install than waiting for the building's management to agree to the work needed to add new pipes.
