Holy smokes what an episode of television #GameOfThrones #TheLongNight
-
-
Subverted expectations - coming from the show that killed its 'main character' in the first season. Understandbly bitter, but nothing out of the ordinary for GoT
-
Largely for me it’s because the undead arc was the arc I was most interested in. The politics and maneuvering for the Iron Throne I grew bored of, so no longer have much interest in the outcome of who claims it. Means I have very little excitement for the season end. Kinda weird.

It just doesn't feel quite right that Arya, who never had anything to do with the goings-on beyond the wall, was the one to strike the blow. While it brought her arc to a satisfying conclusion, it came at the expense of 7 and a half seasons of Jon's arc being built up.
-
Compare prior shocking developments - Ned's execution, Edmure's wedding, the Green Trial - those events all came as the logical conclusion of the mistakes and/or ambitions of those involved. With Jon barely playing a part in the War for the Dawn, his arc is aborted.

I think a lot of people feel that way. In the moment, the episode feels incredible, but afterwards it's hard to not feel a little cheated with how it all turns out.
