main downside to the definitive edition that I've heard is the treatment of the voice acting. they recast characters, but instead of re-recording the old lines, they only filled in the blanks for skits and new content. the jump back and forth is supposed to be pretty bad. :(
Do it. Generally it's viewed as the best installment of the "Tales" franchise. Personally I prefer Tales of Symphonia over it, but Vesperia is definitely a great JRPG.
