AI-first companies are not the same as other software companies. We have to rethink every element of building a company in the intelligence era, including pricing. This is the best article I’ve seen on how AI-first companies can think about pricing: .

Software buyers seem to make purchasing decisions according to their own product lifecycle, e.g. if you grow trees you will take a long time to make a decision to buy software that changes your processes whereas if you build a social app you’ll buy the software you need today.

Our field isn't quite "artificial intelligence" -- it's "cognitive automation": the encoding and operationalization of human-generated abstractions / behaviors / skills. The "intelligence" label is a category error

Incidentally I learned that a reason Japan also has such great craftspeople is that many years ago the ruling group designated people to specialize in certain areas. She used the word ‘casting’ but I haven’t made time to research it yet, and look forward to learning more!

Venice: having a trading hub like Venice allowed specialists to earn a return on their labor. Without trade you have to be a generalist; you can't eat hand-blown glass.

In general, NIPS 1990 proceedings are worth checking out. The differential between NIPS 1990 and NeurIPS 2020 will probably be comparable to the differential between NeurIPS 2020 and NeurIPS 2050...
