We’ve made history today. But the power is not in the history-making, the power is in the people. In each and every one of you. We’ve said it since the beginning of this journey and this night is no different. This night is not about us, it is about you and it always has been.

For every single person across the state, you belong here. This is your home. This is our home. This is our Maryland.

Yes is a tiny but powerful word. When we say yes, we do more, love more, create more. Saying yes is to trust that the universe has a bigger plan for us - one that we can only understand with hindsight. And now, here we are, Governor.

It will take all of us - together - to achieve this vision. Together, with you, we will write the next chapter of Maryland’s history. A chapter that will be filled with real-time heroes like you.

It took me a long time to realize that it was never about needing to fit into a space created by others. It was always about having the courage to be my authentic self in every space.

This inauguration morning, we gathered here at the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley memorial in Annapolis to lay a wreath. An incredibly powerful way to start this momentous day.

3 days. Our evening of faith and community is a perfect reminder of what I love most about Maryland. I am just overjoyed thinking about the love that filled this room and know that when we work together, there is nothing we can’t achieve.

Coming to the U.S. as a 7 year old, I could have never imagined being here today, ready to assume the office of Maryland’s lieutenant governor. And I could not be more grateful. Trust the Universe, it has plans for you too. bit.ly/3ZxB3iB
