If everyone has the exact same number of kids but they start having them at 30 instead of 20, pop growth goes down 50% (Math!)

Studies show the longer a family delays their first child, the less children they have overall b/c they're older & space kids out more.

Population growth is slower because the actual rate at which kids are being born goes down
-
The planet doesn't care how many kids each family has, what matters is the speed at which new humans appear and start consuming

We oversimplify a lot when we talk about pop growth
-
Like we say a couple having two kids is "replacement rate" but that would only actually be true if your kids appeared the moment you died

Assume 50 couples, each with 2 kids. Every 20 years, next gen has 2 kids each. If no one dies, after 60 yrs, 500 ppl.

If instead each couple had kids after 30 years, the total population would be 400.
