I think it was Florida where there were some lawsuits about that - prisons wanted "proof" that people were Jewish.

Happens all the time. Muslim prisoners also get kosher meals because the same rules apply. Numerous suits forced States to provide meals.

Right the idea is that bc they had to be certified kosher or halal they have to be ordered and not prepared on site
