I'm a trained fencer, and our foils could be weighted but usually weren't so that we could safely saber duel (saber means edge hits allowed)

Even if a fencing foil cut like a lightsaber, the "you'd cut your own limbs off in seconds" thing is bullshit.

I do kendo & I think lightsabers are closer to katana than foils; while we do have to careful about cutting ourselves...
