God why do Star Trek people have a bar on a starship and drink cocktails and ale when it’s all pointless stupid synthahol? WHAT IS THE POINT

Wondered this as well. Synthahol has never been well-explained. Is it an inert flavor substitute? Or does it intoxicate, but is dispellable?

No alcohol aboard ship, but the real thing was at Quark's and in bars planetside. I'm sure Lt. Example has had a real drink or two.

Even in that episode it shows Picard keeps a real bottle of Aldeberan brandy behind the bar for special occasions
