Ppl say Guardians of the Galaxy 2 isn't topical but it's literally about an entitled white dude with a planet-sized ego

Hang on, he doesn't have a planet-sized ego, he's the size of a planet and he's named Ego, isn't he? I'm thinking comics, though, not movie.

He's named Ego because the entirety of the planet is suffused with his ego (i.e. his sense of self)

And as a result of this fact he does in fact have a massive superiority complex about any life that isn't part of him

That's the defining character trait they've kept in all the incarnations of the character including the movie

It's one of those clunky super obvious sci-fi metaphors -- he's literally upset and angry there's a world outside himself

Huh. I will admit I missed this but then I haven't read the stories (I remember Ego from John Byrne's FF) in 30 years or more.

I just rebagged and boxed them. I should pull them out.

They had storylines where Ego was temporarily tamed or had a truce or whatever but it never sticks bc of, well, his ego

Anyway "he has a planet-sized ego" works better for the movie version where we mostly interact with his human avatar

(Having a human form who can leave his planet-sized self and looks like Kurt Russell is an addition the movie made)
