The band apparently weren't strong in English and spent a long time trying to literally translate the German, which never works
-
never! German is too many words that are not available in any other language. Reason why, so many German words are being Englished.

I only know the lyrics to the German version. Wrote them out phonetically when I was 12. "She ties shirts and pants in kinessa".
-
Yeah you can tell a translation is a fail when even people who don't know German can tell the German fits better

Oh no, I really enjoyed it and still appreciate German. I can't speak it but that's American language education for you.
-
I also took four years of Spanish and can't speak that, either.

Well that's the point, it needs to be singable
-
Obviously the band could translate the song into English but they couldn't make it scan which is why they went with the napkin

He had way too much fun. I can see why they latched onto it bc he really liked clever little phrases
-
But he wasn't a pro songwriter and those clever phrases are hard to sing and clutter up the song a whole lot
