I actually went on a tear abt how telling Belle about the curse would be counterproductive bc it muddled her motivations
like she has to fall in love w the Beast on his own terms, not for the purpose of giving Chip his legs back
and the servants telling her about the curse is when you think about it a fucked up thing to do to her
Also the movie's contempt for Gaston is clearly a class warfare attack from the aristocracy against the bourgeoisie
Anyway I get the feeling the library was locked up and in disrepair before that scene bc it makes the Beast mad
Debunking this one though because on the tour Cogsworth offered to show it to her, he's fastidious & wouldn't want to if it was trashed
he's just throwing out random ideas as he's desperately trying to stop her from going to the West Wing though
