Yes, it's wrong to want anyone to suffer. You can morally demand they be shown compassion. But empathy and sympathy are not yours to demand

the words aren't always used consistently but I'm using "sympathy" the same way the OP used it

and in the way it's consistently used in other contexts (calling someone a "sympathizer" to a cause)

FTR I strongly suspect "empathy" as in automatically experiencing a reflection of someone else's true emotions may be a myth

Ppl have automatic reactions to other ppl's emotions but taking those reactions as a true clear guide to others' real experiences
