If you want to compare Trump's wall idea to the Great Wall of China we can start w how the nickname for the Great Wall is "China's Sorrow"

And how the legends about it are legends about the First Emperor's narcissism and brutality

And how it only got built by the First Emperor drafting his people as slave labor and is haunted by thousands of wailing ghosts

(These legends are exaggerated bc the Wall was never actually as big a deal as people made it out to be, which is typical for walls)

(China SHOULD brag about the Grand Canal more than the Great Wall, but things that connect ppl are less impressive than things that divide)

The Grand Canal is amazing - China's economy for generations was dictated by the fact that they had east-west rivers but no north-south ones

So they went ahead and built an artificial north-south river

In US history one striking thing is that the North loved building canals - later, railroads and highways - and the South was against it

The main thing the South was mad about was slavery, always, but they were ALMOST as mad abt the "theft" of private funds to build canals

In the end it's all one thing - the South's ideal was isolated self-sufficient fiefdoms (powered by slave labor) and hated public works

They lost the war bc of this shit. Jeff Davis wanted to work on a railroad to link the CSA states and the state governments wouldn't have it
