When I was in high school I literally got slapped on the back of my head for accidentally spoiling something about Star Wars Episode II.

The worst part of that was that I was trying to show off my knowledge of rumours just so I could fit in.

A "spoiler" is almost always a specific plot point, a "twist" or "reveal." What's more interesting to me is how we *get* there in the story.

When you attend an opera, they literally hand you a playbill that gives you a synopsis of the plot. Why? "Spoilers" aren't the point.

Knowing who dies doesn't ruin the opera for you. It allows you to focus on how the music and staging flow into and make up that moment.

Spoiler warnings don't qualify as important but are a bit dickish not to give if something relies on surprises.

Trigger warnings are fundamentally important for the mental health and wellbeing of certain people.
