@arthur_affect Eh. Expat to me suggests temporary/wants to go home--the expat community might be constant, the people in flux.

@arthur_affect 4 weeks after I officially immigrated, I took expat out of my bio. I'm a dummy, it took experiencing it for it to sink in -
@arthur_affect the tipping point was people pitting me against "illegals". undocumented peeps are just trying to live safe lives.

@arthur_affect I've always thought of expat as people looking back at what they've left versus immigrant as people looking forward. -
@arthur_affect but you're correct that there's a tendency for white people to have the means to indulge in looking back at what they left.

@arthur_affect Like, "I'm here for XYZ, until XYZ" --> expat. -
@ErinSatie This is true in theory but most "expat communities" consist of ppl who've been there for years w no concrete plans to leave - Show replies

@arthur_affect I refer to myself as an immigrant; I feel like expat is intentionally temporary and sorta touristy? -
@machineiv That's kind of what I mean, it's used disingenuously

@arthur_affect I like how "philanthropist/investor" is the masculine form of "heiress."Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
