I mean that's why "Cat Stuck in Tree" was such a trope for so long, right? They seem to have a very poor grasp of what they can and cannot do, and don't realize that just because they could climb up something, that doesn't mean they'll be able to climb back down.

Yeah see it doesn't work backwards, the cat transmission doesn't have a reverse gear

Had a foster once who'd climb ontop of doors and whine about not being able to get down. She also did not like to be picked up at all and was strong as hell. We eventually just let her whine until she figured it out herself.

Mine likes to get on high shelves, then pace's around for a place to jump down, which scares me that he's going to try it. He's terrified by being picked up when he's above his rescuer's shoulder-height or by extended arms up high. I have scars from his panicked scrambling.pic.twitter.com/047Uh7XiTD

If that were a person, they'd have a cast for weeks. I know, because that was me at age four.

Cats are like the Doctor, they get into the most dangerous of places without a plan, and they make it up as they go along, but they always get an exit strategy.

He or she actually did pretty good there overall!

...I mean, the cat didn't fall, they slid down pretty smooth, and I'd be shocked if they weren't emboldened to keep trying it
