I figured it was because Q is easy to rhyme.

There are, sort of, (I tried to explain it with limited knowledge but I then found a link), Avenues A through Z in Brooklyn. Alphabet City is A-D. But I've never seen Avenue Q so I don't know, if it's a direct reference. Q is one of the missing letters. https://forgotten-ny.com/2014/09/avenue-q-gravesend-%E2%80%93-marine-park/#:~:text=There's%20no%20Avenue%20Q%20in,became%20Glenwood%20Road%20long%20ago.&text=Avenue%20Q%2C%20therefore%2C%20took%20its,between%20Avenues%20P%20and%20R ….

I just think it’s meant to say they’re way out in Alphabet City, which was gentrifying at the time and was popular with young newcomers and lower-income residents. Possibly also paying off RENT, which is also set there in the very, very early days of gentrification.

Also there is no actual Avenue Q. They skip it for some reason.

Deeper in Brooklyn the avenues are lettered. Oddly enough it skips “Avenue Q.” In between Avenues P and R there is a Quentin Rd.
