Devil's advocate, I guess: The actual point of the speech was that maybe now that their lives had been directly endangered and they'd felt helpless they could empathize with the refugees This argument is only possible with Karli having successfully threatened their liveshttps://twitter.com/loudpenitent/status/1385678974542438401 …

And of course a bunch of people seem to already be taking the message that Sam is an appeaser when HIS ONE FUCKING SPEECH TO PEOPLE IN A POSITION OF POWER HAD MORE IMPACT THAN ALL THEIR DIPSHIT ANARKIDDY RAMPAGES.

The show actually comes very perilously close to saying Karli's interpretation of the propaganda of the deed was correct The terrorism worked in the end If the Flag-Smashers had never existed, Sam's speech would've never happened (and never worked if he'd made it)

The refugees only get to stay because of Karli Whatever appeal to humanity and empathy Sam's speech may have made it only worked because they got the shit scared out of them first

This is honestly standard analysis Extremists don't "succeed" directly and immediately, the terrorist rarely gets elected president But what success their moderate and civil counterparts have is because of them They provide the stick and the moderate provides the carrot

FDR comes to power because people look at actual Marxist uprisings in the rest of the world and go "Well I'd rather have some bleeding heart socdem raising the min wage than have Lenin"

Coretta Scott King telling the story of Malcolm X literally coming up to her and saying "Look, we're not enemies I'm just here to remind white folks who don't like your husband what the other option is"

I at no stage disagreed with the terrorists. I think in the MCU there is so much mindless violence and death that I never cared that they were murderers. The last episode was the most engaged I’d been with it but it wasn’t Wandavision

Also "the speech had more power" isn't an argument, it's plot. It works because the writers wanted it to work, its effectiveness is not directly tied to its value. This is just Sorkinism. (Haven't seen the show, no opinion on the speech, just the QT)

I’m actually comfortable w/ that honestly, I like Sam was able to go “either do the right thing here or there’s more of them & I’m not necessarily saying I’ll get in their way.”
