Actually yes people who demand that I, personally, print out a copy of something that I've already sent them electronically and they've had ample time to print themselves are extremely old in the worst possible wayhttps://twitter.com/LeahPilcer/status/1384992061020008450 …

That can be a fun line in an interview. “Oh, so you didn’t look at the resume I submitted? Didn’t do your homework?”

The whole degrading thing about the interview process is of course they can make you do whatever the fuck they want because the pretense of this being any kind of mutual interaction is nonsense

And the infuriating thing about the OP is how often they do these blatant power flexes to make you crawl through humiliating hoops and then play dumb "Oh, I'm just old-fashioned, in my day this kind of thing was just the polite thing to do"

Making you fucking *take notes* at the interview "Well, even in the event we choose someone else for the position, we hope this interview was a thought-provoking learning experience!" Bite me

That's the part that got me more, tbh. Like what is there to take notes on???? Which "Top Ten Interview Questions for Millennials" article they decided to use? Any information they give regarding the job itself should be given again if they hire you

One of the stupid fictions they try to push on everyone is that all job interviews are, like, high-level search committees trying to fill executive positions "You're trying to find the right fit for you just as we're trying to find the right fit for us"

Bitch no I'm not I'm trying to pay my goddamn rent This is not a meeting of equals I will take any job that I think I can actually do that pays me a decent amount of money You *know this* and you're going through this elaborate social ritual pretending otherwise

I think it's complicated why they do this, and part of the reason is that in many ways if you keep this fiction up it makes people easier to exploit But also I really think it's a lie bosses tell so they can live with themselves

Like the scene in Parasite where Mr. Kim spins this elaborate fantasy about the new, better job the chauffeur dude they got fired must've gotten, based on no knowledge, only wishful thinking "I'm not hurting anyone by making these kinds of decisions"

"If someone goes into their 7th week of unemployment because I didn't hire them, well... It wasn't meant to be They wouldn't have been happy here They're off to find a better job, one they'll certainly get, that mythic 'good fit'"

What also chaps my ass about this is that these are the same type of employers who will consistently pick the worst person for the job. It weeds out the competent because it weeds out those with the most self-respect.
