Was the old shield not just made of foam or rubber? Don't they hit people with it? Wouldn't stunts be dangerous if it's actually heavy?

There's multiple different shield props (over fifty different ones), and the "stunt" shields where he's hurling it like a frisbee or whacking people with it are indeed made of lightweight foam or resin

Speaking of making a shield, that scene at the end of the last F+WS shows that John Walker has absolutely no idea what he's doing when it comes to making a shield. That scene makes no sense from a maker's perspective.
