There are good reasons to not be vaccinated, but the ones that specifically apply more to men than to women have to do with being jackasseshttps://twitter.com/andizeisler/status/1385337662878359553 …

I am now flashing back to the incident I've mentioned before where my dad got a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt and then went on this two-hour tirade about the nanny state treating like a child and Americans forgetting their own founding values and so on

Imagine being a little kid and your dad just full on yelling "If *I* want to take the risk and *I* die in a car accident because of *my* decisions what business is that of the goddamn *government*"

(I know young people will probably refuse to believe "seatbelt resistance" was ever a thing but it was absolutely a thing Seatbelt laws only slowly came in state-by-state during the 1980s and people were fucking PISSED about it)

My grandfather wouldn't wear a seatbelt. He said he'd hold himself in place by gripping the wheel *really tight*

There was this whole absurd argument back in the day about "passive mitigation" vs. "active mitigation" in an accident Like it was a cost-benefit ratio, the seatbelt provides excellent "passive mitigation" but hampers "active mitigation"

"It keeps you from reacting and bracing yourself properly against the specific direction the collision is coming from, it's a one-size-fits-all solution that stops you from adjusting to a changing situation" Like we've all received extensive training on how to survive accidents

JFC people were talking like they're fucking Bruce Willis in a movie Like if they're in a car accident their finely honed instincts will kick in and they'll suddenly leap heroically from the car and roll to safety, and therefore the seatbelt would actually kill them

Obsessed with this scenario "What if I survive the crash, but I need to escape the burning car before it explodes, and the jammed seatbelt is the one specific thing wrong with the car that keeps me from doing so" Which could only possibly apply to like 0.5% of all accidents

i once got a car ride from a random dude who turned out to be an ex-cop (don't ask) when he saw me put on my seatbelt he went on this whole spiel about how he didn't approve of them, he never wore them, he wanted to be ready to leap out of the (squad) car at any moment
