anyways more seriously i do find shapiro's gender performance sort of interesting to analyze like, start with the observation that if i dropped by home depot, there are actually some things i might want to pick up, like pruning shears, or rock salt, or penetrating lubricant

      Replying to @perdricof @arthur_affect

but shapiro isn't picking up any of that--he hasn't grabbed, say, a roll of duct tape. he's grabbed a cut of lumber--one suspects he went into the store and asked, "what's the most manly thing i could be carrying out of here--of course! a big hunk of wood."

but then he immediately undermines the whole performance by having it be a random offcut, comically small, and--of all things--half-stuffed into a plastic grocery bag

it is, in other words, one of the most half-assed gender performances i've seen in a while he doesn't even walk out with a half-dozen full pieces on his shoulder-- just the barest minimum of presenting a Manly Token, like the atrophying of some formerly functional gland

but one supposes to his audience that's enough it's "virtue signalling" for the conservative set--this thing that they're obsessed with yet can't stop doing--just sending up a signal of cultural allegiance, detached from any functionality

This is like a scientifically precise self-own Ben Shapiro, himself, is doing exactly what I would make up if I were writing a comedy script trying to cruelly mock Ben Shapiro EXACTLY

Going to Home Depot and buying a single fucking piece of wood because not only does he actually not do any kind of manual labor he doesn't even have a clear idea of what it would look like if he did

AND he's a cheapskate who's willing to do this stupid stunt for a video but not willing to invest anything in it, like paying $70 for an actual power tool "How much would it cost to just buy a small board, that I can carry around like a man would"

"Yeah I'm uhhh doing my part to 'support' Home Depot for standing up to the wokes, the $5 I spent on this piece of scrap lumber will send their stock price soaring"

my big question is, why is he brandishing the receipt like is he afraid people will think he just drove to the home depot parking lot with a spare piece of lumber he had lying around

I guess that's why he didn't buy an actual tool, even a cheap one like a screwdriver That would be admitting that he doesn't already own one and is therefore unmanly Whereas he can pretend this piece of wood is for some kind of ongoing carpentry project

People need to stay on his ass about this Like in exactly one month have everyone message him at once "Show us the piece of poplar, Ben! Show us what you made out of it! Where's the birdhouse, Ben? I want to see the birdhouse"

A smarter person would have gone with some kind of thing that gets used up and needs replacing, like sandpaper.

Everybody knows that if you don't have 18 screwdrivers then you really have 0 screwdrivers. My favorite is the one that's 12 inches long because the hole with the screw was super deep.
