Hey I'm a 90s kid too You like Sublime? They did this awesome track called "April 29, 1992" You know it's about a thing that happened on that date?https://twitter.com/kylenabecker/status/1385110756245573634 …

It's hard to believe, but in the 1990s young Americans didn't really fight about racial issues. White kids listened to gangsta rap, idolized MJ & watched films starring black actors like 'Blade.' These young people would grow up to be called 'white supremacists.' Go figure.

Jesus Christ this shallow bullshit about music and shit You are EXACTLY the stereotype of the white kid from the suburbs blasting "Fuck the Police" by NWA just to piss off your parents because the lyrics don't mean anything to you

That's what this is about, really You grew up, you got old, and you ALWAYS THOUGHT, even when you were a teenager, that those lyrics were rebellious teenage nonsense That's all the depth any of this ever had for you

It's funny because EVEN THE ITEMS HE CITED are rife with racial disputes! Gangsta rap caused mass resentment and consternation over it's popularity and the paranoia of it "corrupting" people to be "thugs." Michael Jackson was a "race issue" all to himself around this time.

Remember a song why a certain band with the initials NWA? I believe you stood for something “with attitude.” They did a song that talked about the police in rather unflattering terms, if I remember.

I mean I very specifically remember the 90s as a time of people fighting for social justice while conservatives tantrumed about "political correctness," and then the 2000s as a time of backlash, "edgy" humor, and much media going anti-Bush but pro bigotry.

Plus if they were radicalized in the 2000s/2010s, who really cares what media they liked in the 90s?

Long ago, I realized that white kids listening to Black artists did not equate to them loving Black people or even liking Black people. The cognitive dissonance is pure America, and no, I don't mean that as a compliment.

Seriously this is a problem with us just trying to forget about the "blackface minstrel era" White America was at its most viciously, proudly racist at a time when their popular entertainment *completely revolved around* images of Black people
