This is what pisses me off about the pile-on on Bree Newsome reading her in bad faith No, I don't think violence is "normal" or should be normalized I think it's very serious and should be dealt with as such But it's a bigger part of life than some sheltered people seem to gethttps://twitter.com/arthur_affect/status/1385063435411496961 …

This is what pisses me off the most. We see people with little to know power forced to de-escalate situations, when that should be the responsibility of people with a lot of power. When you have a gun, it is your literal job to do everything in your power to not fire it.

Little to know? What the fuck, autocorrect.

take average cops' guns. make them call in SWAT if they must, but force them to de-escalate by removing their ability to escalate.

I would be interested to see the results of a survey question along the lines of - "A tries to cut/stab B with a knife, do you think this constitutes attempted murder?" After all, a stab wound probably won't kill you, but it certainly *could*.
-
Thinking of limiting cases - shooting at someone would almost universally be seen as attempted murder, even though most GSWs are non-fatal. Punching someone would not, even though the occasional unlucky punch does lead to death. Knives would be somewhere in the middle, I assume.
