So let's say worst case scenario -- the cop freezes in place and does nothing, the girl with the knife manages to somehow stab the other girl right in the heart, other girl dies right then and there Nobody would be going after the cop in this scenario I sure as hell wouldn'thttps://twitter.com/KenzieLutece/status/1385053972382244864 …

They literally established that cops don't have a positive duty to intervene in physical fights if they judge that it's too dangerous to themselves or anyone else It's straight up not actually his job

And if asked to defend himself he could just say "Even if you think the girl's life meant nothing and was forfeit the moment she pulled a knife, I couldn't be confident of shooting her and not hitting the other girl too" WHICH IS TRUE

It IS very dangerous to shoot someone who's in a physical fight with someone else It IS just luck that he didn't hit the other girl, especially with all four bullets It WAS a bad idea EVEN IF you think the first girl merited death JFC

The cop is supposed to be trained to physically disarm and restrain people without firing his gun He's supposed to have a stab-resistant vest If there's really nothing at all he can do to stop an untrained 16-year-old girl with a steak knife from killing someone, he should quit

But even if none of the above were true, if the only choice was doing what he did or doing nothing, how can you actually say "doing nothing" is the wrong choice here If the cops had just never come at all, almost certainly everyone walks away from this situation alive
