There was a strange time in the mid70s to mid80s of much more diverse & gender-neutral toys than you see now. LEGO, Fisher-Price Adventure People, dolls for all kids, play kitchens for all kids, etc. It wasn't that unusual by the late 80s for boys to have a Cabbage Patch doll.

Yeah, I was a kid then, and the way that so much kids' stuff is gendered now looks so weird to me.

I was accepted into an advertising program in early 90s while working in a pub. An older business man I really respected told me not to do it. He said it was a vicious business & would suck the soul out of me. I listened. Watching Madmen I saw his point

And then ... it fell apart. I used to know lots more about this particular shift toward aggressively-gendered toys & clothes but I've forgotten. It's really interesting, though. This odd little window of progressivism in kids' toys.
