Just because I’m not educated in this area in the US, if someone is found guilty on 3 charges and for example get 20 years per charge - they don’t serve those simultaneously, right? Like that’s 60 years, correct?

Well, usually, some laws mandate that for certain crimes they must be served consecutively and others mandate they cannot be

I think murder tends to have more mandatory guidelines than other crimes. But, I'm not familiar with the relevant statues in this trial. My weirdly sporadic legal knowledge strikes again.

if any of the charges are “lesser included offenses” or arise out of the same singular act, then they usually merge and any sentence is suspended (i#mot imposed)
