It's been pointed out before, but the biggest failure of the Harry Potter series is that Harry is ultimately the defender-of-the-status-quo from Wizard Hitler rather than somebody who wants to subvert it in the opposite direction, because the wizard status-quo is fucked.

That or only vaguely describing a bunch of stuff and allow the fans to basically write half of the story themselves. Same basic idea with not showing horror monsters. Whatever your head comes up with will be better.

I think there was a study that this is also true of the initial popularity of many social media (reddit) posts that errors in the title drive engagement I don't know if that's folk wisdom or not, but I guess per the rule I should insist it's true

It has to strike that balance between good enough to entertain and bad enough to get fans obsessively trying to fix all the problems. Also they should want the characters to bang.

I still find it hilarious how big a thing people made of all the work she allegedly did carefully crafting the books, all the alleged napkin notes and other bullshit. Like, she spent all that time and effort and came out with...that?
