Imagine living in the world where a "microphone" is just called a "phone" for short People say "pass the phone" or "drop the phone" A "telephone" is called a "tel", Apple made the "iTel" as the first popular "smartel"

In this universe no one in the UK says "telly" for "television", they just say TV "Mic" is short for "microwave oven" People use it as a verb for reheating something - "mic this for two minutes on high"

In this universe the fact that calling someone on a telephone is "telling" them and sounds the same as the existing word "tell" is considered mildly confusing and the basis of a great deal of wordplay

When they first introduced cellular telephony everyone picked up on the term "cell-tels", like "hi-fi" and "wi-fi"

Someone tried to make a joke about "mobile telephone" being "mo-tel" and sounding the same as the abbreviation for a "motorist hotel" but it didn't take off

TBH I'm still confused as to why people call them "cells". Who cares what the underlying technological concept is?

I’m not sure where you’re going with this, but I’m hoping it involves some wacky alternative-timeline name for HBO Max.
