Dr. Ellie Lockhart. Republic serial villain. added,
Yeah, my assumption is that he doesn't like John Walker becoming bad
Didn't John Walker imply he was already bad, like he wasn't happy with everything he did as solider?
He implied that he got his Afghanistan medals for doing something that felt very wrong
It is also a weird coincidence that the "American Taliban" kid was named John Philip Walker Lindh
Yeah, that is a REALLY potentailly interesting part.
The comics character debuted in 1986 so it is definitely a coincidence
"John Walker" is in fact a very common name so who knows But in 1986 a lot of people would've associated the name with the US naval officer convicted of selling out to the Sovietshttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Anthony_Walker …
Kurt Busiek was asked about this and said it seemed equally possible Gruenwald was thinking of this guy or of the whiskey so who knows John Walker Lindh seemed to prefer to go by his mother's maiden name already but the 80s story probably did influence what the media called him
Anyway John Walker the comics character is, superficially, the exact opposite of a defector to the Soviets or the Taliban But I feel like the name is imprinted on our collective consciousness as "good ol all-American boy who turns traitor"
