The worst thing about the word "Anglo-Saxon" trending is how it's invited all the racist white people from the UK to weigh in

Just remind them that Anglo-Saxon is middle English for "got their asses handed to them by the french".

1066 is an interesting story all in all, bro. The Normans (north men/ of Viking ancestry mixed w a bit of French) were expected to attack during fighting season (it was kind of a thing to not attack each other when supposed to be harvesting or whatnot). They didn't...

The Welsh word" Saesneg" and the Scottish Gaelic equivalent "Sassenach" are used for "English" but literally translated as "Saxon", and is rarely used endearingly.

Didn't realise there was a Welsh version too! I was always told that sassenach referred to anyone born below the Antonine Wall (as opposed to teuchter for the northerners) and I only learned recently about it meaning Saxon. We do love shitting on each other in this country.

I’ve got someone arguing with me about calling ‘Anglo-Saxon’ a dog-whistle, and I told him if he’s worried about his Anglo-Saxon heritage being erased I’m going to assume he’s a white supremacist. He responded by posting a graph of US white people no longer being the majority.pic.twitter.com/aO7Lpw9vLt

Would a racist be highly concerned about this thing only a racist would care about? Hmmmmm?
