Yeah it's a pretty good scene in that they make us feel the weight of John's humiliation and despair even though the senator dude is right and he's incredibly lucky

This scene and the Isaiah scene are not things I expected from a Marvel TV show, in a good way. That Isaiah scene.....damn. My grandfather had been in WWII and absolutely refused to ever let me join the military so that was DEEP.

Props to them for not saying the important bit out loud all over the place this week Isaiah Bradley got thrown in jail for replicating, exactly, Steve Rogers’ first heroic feat (raiding a POW camp against orders to rescue his friends) and they call no attention to that

Especially given the Senator’s speech at the end of the episode. The show is pro-America (in the end, it disagrees with Isaiah Bradley) but not pro-military. Same line Coates walks in his Captain America run, I think.
