He so perfectly encapsulates every douchebag I knew as a teenager whose life ambition was to graduate from West Point

And yeah it's great because it very much is a portrayal of evil as weakness, rather than glorifying it You never at any point get the sense it would be cool or badass or awesome to be John Walker He's the most pitiful person on the show, but not in a way where you sympathize

At heart, even as a married celebrity war hero in his 30s, he's still that dumb sheltered kid who was fed countless lies and never spent a minute thinking about what they meant until it was too late You'd feel bad for him if so many of the consequences weren't spun outward

I know Russel as one of the most unsympathetic guys on screen ever. And he is great in this partpic.twitter.com/3enxYxqT2x

You're more optimistic than I am on this. You present this as a statement about Russell's acting skill. I just see this as a statement about the woeful condition of media consumers in America. People are terrible.

Everyone’s being awful nice to those so twisted and lacking in life purpose that they’d threaten an actor for their acting but maybe it’s a “catch more flies with honey” move.

tbh i didn’t even REALIZE that was him playing the goofball stoner comic relief type until i looked at his imdb. thought he was a completely separate person

seeing him first in that Black Mirror episode I figured that was basically his personality, hearing he was Kurt Russell's kid I was like "oh yeah definitely" then came OVERLORD and it was like wow, okay, he just knows his work and I have no idea what he's actually like
-
Yep. I knew him as the stoner pitcher in Every Body Wants Some! And also as the (future) confederate JEB Stuart in the John Brown miniseries The Good Lord Bird, so he’s potentially somewhere in between those two

I've been downright astonished with his portrayal. He managed to nail the superficially likeable first impression and seamlessly transitioned into "oh wow yeah this dude has problems."
-
His attempts to win over Sam and Bucky reminded me so much of managers I've dealt with in the past who wanted me to think they were on my side only to do a complete one-eighty as soon as they knew it wasn't happening. And then, well, "stay the hell out of our way."
