But what I mean by this is, yes, in the MCU the word “Nazi” is occasionally used and understood to be synonymous with “Hydra,” except it’s not, bc Bucky is ex-Hydra and this isn’t treated with nearly the weight it would be if they meant it

Whereas *at this point* in Star Wars they have made the call that they are acknowledging fan criticism and deciding the Empire *is* the Nazis. I take this from the Mandalorian episode “The Believer” aka the heist episode with that Bill Burr jerk

The episode being titled that+content indicate Imperials are now being presented as people who you cannot,in fact, politely share a drink with, that even if you are a “sinner” with bigoted views like Burr’s character is coded as,any shred of decency will make you kill an Imperial

You don’t emulate two Quentin Tarantino tension-building scenes about killing fascists (in a season where you’ve had a friend of Tarantino’s on the creative team, notably) and not intend for the group that are the fascists to be condemned

And like, they went to all that effort to do the “501st” Stormtrooper Cosplay callout, where the TIE Fighter show up and save them and we get this cool anthem and the stormtroopers salute and then they’re like “remember those were indigenous resistance fighters”

I mean that’s directly calling out your fans. Marvel hasn’t done ANYTHING like that

It's actually a nit of a pity because the 501st does seem pretty good charity work. But, yea Imperials are space nazis. Do you think it might be because no one is dressing up as Hydra agents?

like you read sometimes about how disney designs certain of its properties with cosplayers in mind--rey's outfit, for instance the point is that you can make it at home and wear it and look cool thankfully, marvel has never tried that with hydra

I did not know they did this and for some reason I find this profoundly off-putting, lol.

They've been making stuff for cosplay potential for years
