in fairness I think the characters would agree diagetically like I think if you asked Peter Parker to explain what he thought happened in Age of Ultron, he would not be able to The only one who remembers it clearly is Wanda

Which is especially problematic given that the Sokovia Incident was then used to justify massive policy changes in international law for a generation thereafter, including stripping Wanda of her civil liberties But that's fairly realistic for modern politics

rewatching CIVIL WAR and the sokovia accords really do seem like they're tony's personal guilt trip and a barely even a warranted one! tony's just stressed by the responsibility, terrible things happened, now he's displacing that guilt onto the rest of the team

"*you* need oversight, *you* can't be trusted, *you're* a danger to the world--" he keeps saying this but it's himself he's talking about / refusing to talk about

Yeah, the "true" villain of that movie is Tony, Baron Zemo is just the proverbial Darkspawn storming through whichever bulwark Ferelden left most tantalizingly unguarded

Tony Stark is a supervillain by CIVIL WAR, yeah. I maintain that he's the true villain of SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING too.

the wildest part about AGE OF ULTRON and the sokovia accords is that afterwards tony builds /another/ orbiting superdeath supermachine and then gives the controls to a teenager extremely strong evidence he was full of shit the whole time

i'm not on the reappraisal train when it comes to age of ultron that movie is bad it had some good lines serialized storytelling means later, better things sometimes refer back to it but it's not good

AGE OF ULTRON gave us "tony stank" for that it shall always have my gratitude

But Ragnarok gave us Bruce putting on a pair of Tony's pants and complaining about how tight they are in the crotch
