Iron Man 3 really does has a feel of being non-canon, huh

Infinity War kind of retcons the character development from this movie (everything is fine between Tony and Pepper again) but then Endgame prominently brings the kid from this movie back for Tony's funeral

I think it went: Iron Man - coworkers Iron Man 2/Avengers/Iron Man 3 - dating Age of Ultron - ??? Captain America: Civil War - split (no explanation) Spider-Man: Homecoming - back together Infinity War - engaged No real retcon, but certainly not a smooth arc.

this is a very Joss Whedon kind of trajectory

Tony's entire arc post-IRON MAN 3 feels like it was written around the Schrödinger's Cat-like status of Robert Downey Jr.'s movie contract with Marvel.

Age of Ultron didn't even really address it at all, it was Whedon just being like "Okay but I have to have him in the suit for the basic premise of my movie so I'm ignoring this" Civil War, at least, felt like an honest moment of acknowledging "Ok here's what would happen then"

Tony's entire Ultron program feels like an extension of him wanting to retire as Iron Man whilst also having the Avengers looking at him expectantly whenever there's a crisis.

Tony definitely wanted to be the Vince McMahon of the Avengers, nominally a noncombatant but he still has the same entrance music from like 1995 and it hits like every other week

Then again, I feel like IRON MAN 3 introduces a massive plot hole with the remote controlled suits. Why does he need to physically suit-up ever again if he can just pilot the armor from a safe distance?

Well, Age of Ultron is about this system going horribly wrong

Yeah, but that's when he tried to delegate the controls to AI. He could just do what the Sovereign do in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL.2.

It does always bear pointing out how weakened the whole point of Age of Ultron is by having the problem never be with Tony's tech in and of itself but be with his decision to plug an evil wizard staff into it
